Top Ranking in Google

Top ranking in GoogleHow to get a: Top Ranking in Google?

In the first of this series Google Ranking we explained how a page rank came into being and what it took to get a top page ranking from Google. Now we are going to discuss how to get a top ranking in Google without having to worry so much about how good your Page Ranking is or ever gets.

So the first rule for getting a top ranking in Google is great content:

One sure fire way to lower your ranking in google is to write rubbish unrelated to the subject. Google has been very public in telling everyone it is looking to stop advertisements masquerading as websites. For example if you just click on a website such the Taylor Made Website obviously it is one giant advertisement all about Taylor Made golf clubs. That said there is a lot of additional information on sponsored players, the specifications of the clubs, new products etc. The brand name carries a lot of credibility and no doubt they are lots of websites that link back to this site for various reasons.

The next ‘rung down’ on the ladder is something like this website:

Click here for a great eating program.

So you have some content and the program is the number one in the US at present but in reality it is more of an add then it is anything else. Because it is sold through affiliates it has thousands of links so as a small business you will find it hard to outrank a site like this.

To improve my blog ranking in google I need to work smart!

So let’s look at the title of this page as a typical example of ‘working smarter not harder’. If I had used the title: Ranking in Google I would need to generate 11 links to this page to out rank the top page. By simply using the title: Top Ranking in Google I only need to generate 4 back links to this page to outrank the competition.

clipartFor a local company the next trick is to ‘get down and get LOCAL’.

Let’s show you how that works with a simple page title: Taylor Made

  1. Taylor Made 39 700 000 competitors.
  2. Taylor Made Golf 6 320 000 competitors.
  3. Taylor Made Golf Balls Gold Coast 520 000 competitors.

Logically a top ranking in Google is going to be a lot easier when you only have 520 000 competitors and not 39 Million.

Think about all the advantages you now have:

  1. To begin with the likelihood that the big guys are competing for this search is not great.
  2. The big guys aren’t likely to ever bother with this search. So maintaining a good rank will be a lot simpler.
  3. If you are based on the Gold Coast then this typ of search is going to bring the people to your website who are local and may well buy from you.
  4. Google’s local listing ‘street search’ will list your website.
  5. You can list in Local directories to get quality back-links. Again something the big guys can’t afford to do on a world wide basis.

Having as many pages as you can ranked in a variety of local searches is going to give you far more ‘bang for your buck’ than spending hours and hours trying to get a page ranked by Google. Moreover if the competition for that search does ever become overly competitive you haven’t put ‘all you eggs in one basket’ so to speak. So if you have to lose that one search category it is not the end of the world nor will it have cost you anything like what it could cost to grow a high Page rank in a highly competitive search category.

Like all Business related activities a top ranking in Google is all about competing effectively, to a budget and in a sector you have a competitive advantage.
