Free Facebook Fan Page
What is a Facebook Fan Page?
A Facebook Fan Page is essentially a page you can add to you personal Facebook Profile tell people a little more about yourself. Given many people who use Facebook do so to talk to friends if you have products to sell of services you can offer then you can tell your friends about those products or services via a free Facebook Fan Page.
So how does the whole Fan Page thing work?
Well to begin with you need to have a Facebook Fan Page set up (more on that in a moment).
Then the aim is to have people click the ‘Like’ button at the top of the page.
In order to get people to like them most people / companies are offering something for free to get the ‘Like’ button clicked.
You can now build very sophisticated opt in pages and Facebook itself has, since February 2011, enabled the Facebook interface so it can in effect now contain a ‘mini’ web site. Once the individual clicks you ‘Like’ button they become a Facebook Fan and they are then taken to a second screen called a Fan Page.
By now you are probably wondering why does it matter and who cares? So let’s just throw some numbers at you and see if that peaks your interest:
- Facebook has about 500 000 000 (half a billion) members.
- 13-20% of Facebook members surveyed say they start their day by opening their Facebook page.
- Over 80% admit to using Facebook at work (guessing many more don’t admit).
That all means that there are a lot of people all using Facebook. That in turn means companies are looking for ways to advertise to all those people. Facebook itself is looking at ways to advertise to those people.
So here’s what Facebook have done. They have offered everyone a free Facebook Fan Page!
Anyone that has a personal page can set up a free fan page. But here’s the catch. Facebook want to know who is selling what to whom. By simpling making it manditory to tick the ‘Like’ button Fan pages can be monitored. In business terms the more ‘Fans’ you have the better off you are as Facebook is going to use the number of Fans your site has to ‘rank’ you site. This is very similar to the ‘back links’ system adopted by the search engines.
Where is this all headed?
Well it all going to be commercialized very quickly over the next few years. As of July 2011 it is estimated that about 7% of companies currently use Facebook as a means of advertising their products. Compare that to the number using Google and friends.
Naturally as companies start to ‘wake up’ there will be an explosion and people with contacts (i.e. friends) will find they can make a lot of money. For example let’s say you have a teenager who has 100 odd friends (many have over 1000) and each of those friends have 100 and finally each of them has 100.
With one ‘Post’ your teenager can reach a ‘targeted’ market of 1 000 000 other teenagers all of who probably have similar interests!
That is an advertising bonanza!!
So how do you build a free Facebook Fan Page?
There are three ways:
1. You can build a ‘fake website’ using something like WordPress and a plugin called
2. You can ‘write’ the HTML for free using ‘Mozilla Composer’ which is free to download and use.
- It also has a WYSIWYG page that you simply type in what you want, add the pictures you like.
- Then all you do then copy and paste the HTML code to your Facebook Fan Page.
3. But the simpliest option is simply to upload two photos to a server like ‘Flickr’
Upload two pictures.- One for a ’Like’ us opt in page (see above).
- One as a Fan Page (adjacent).
- Edit both pages using the editor program in Flickr called Picnik.
- Save the changes and make sure you allow full Public viewing.
- Select the size you want (about 520px wide is best for Facebook Fan Pages).
- Copy the HTLM code.
- Paste the code into you Facebook Fan Page.
- Done!
Naturally we will do all that for you for a very reasonable price if you send us a couple of photographs.
